  • MR. MIA CREDITS ONE OF HIS BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS BY DEVELOPING HIS OWN R.D.P. PROJECT WHERE HE BUILT 1000 HOMES FOR THE LENASIA COMMUNITY. HE PROVIDED FINANCE BY BORROWING R 5 MILLION RAND AT HIS OWN RISK IN 1984, TO FACILITATE SECURING HOMES FOR THE DESERVING FAMILIES. THE PEOPLE OF LENASIA WERE PREVIOUSLY BEING CHARGED R80 000 PER HOUSE, WHILE SAYED MIA BUILT THEM FOR JUST R40 000 PER HOUSE.
  • DUE TO HIS PHILANTHROPY AND INCREDIBLE ACTS OF HUMANITY, SAYED MIA WAS SELECTED BY “THE STAR NEWSPAPER” AS ONE OF THE “TOP 100 STARS OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN COMMUNITY” FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO COMMUNITY SERVICE, PARTICULARLY IN THE AREA OF HOUSING.
  • HE HAS BEEN A SPONSOR OF THE S.H. MIA LIBRARY COMPETITION FOR MANY YEARS. THIS IS A PROJECT WHICH ENCOURAGES LITERACY AMONGST THE THEN INDIAN SCHOOLS OF THE TRANSVAAL (NOW GAUTENG) UNDER THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES.
  • SAYED MIA HAS SPONSORED THE SOUTH AFRICAN FEDERATION, HEADED THEN BY MR. TRIKEMJEE AND MR P. JORDAAN DURING YEARS OF TIGHT FINANCIAL CONSTRAINT. THE SPONSORSHIP WAS IN ORDER TO PULL THEM THROUGH AND ALLOW MULTI RACIAL SOCCER TO SURVIVE.
  • SAYED MIA ALSO DEVOLOPED THE FIRST SHOPPING CENTRE IN LENASIA, NAMED THE LENASIA SQUARE IN 1989. DURING THESE TIMES IN SOUTH AFRICA, A LOAN FROM ANY FINANCIAL INSTITUTION TO PEOPLE OF COLOUR WAS VERY DIFFICULT, AND THIS WAS ONE OF MR MIA’S MANY FEATS GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY HE SO DEARLY LOVES.
  • HE IS THE SPONSOR AND DONOR OF MANY WELFARE, CHARITABLE AND SPORTING ORGANISATIONS AND INSTITUTIONS.
  • HE IS THE SPONSOR OF THE “TIME TO LEARN PROJECT”. THIS PROJECT WAS FOUNDED BY SAYED MIA IN THE EARLY 1970’S, WHERE SPECIAL TUITION AND HOMEWORK HELP WAS GIVEN TO STUDENTS OF GRAYVILLE AND TOMSVILLE WHOSE FAMILIES HAD NO LIGHT OR AMENITIES AT HOME IN ORDER TO DO THEIR SCHOOLWORK. THIS ENTIRE PROJECT WAS SPONSORED FROM MR. MIA’S THEN TEACHERS SALARY.
  • HE HAS ALSO SPONSORED THE SCHOOL FEES AND TUITION FOR MANY STUDENTS STUDYING AT PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND TERTIARY EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTES.
  • HE HAS DONATED TO THE BUILDING PROJECT AT THE JISSWA SCHOOL FOR THE MENTALLY HANDICAPPED. A HALL HAS BEEN NAMED IN HIS HONOUR AS THANKS FOR HIS GENEROUS FUNDING
  • HE HAS SPEARHEADED THE SPONSORSHIP OF VARIOUS FUND RAISING CAMPAIGNS IN AND AROUND LENASIA FOR THE PAST THIRTY YEARS.
  • MR MIA HAS ALSO BEEN A MAJOR CONTRIBUTOR AND FACILITATOR TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE GUGULETHU SCHOOL IN ORANGE FARM.
  • HE HAS ALSO BEEN A SPONSOR FOR SMILE WEEK FOR THE SMILE FOUNDATION. THE SMILE FOUNDATION IS A WORLD RENOWNED NGO THAT AIDS CHILDREN WITH ANY TYPE OF FACIAL ABNORMALITY SUCH AS CLEFT LIP, AND PALATE, BURN VICTIMS, FACIAL PARALYSIS AND OTHER CONDITIONS SUCH AS EAR AND NOSE DEFORMITIES, FACIAL GROWTHS AND CRANIOFACIAL CONDITIONS. THEY RECEIVE FREE PLASTIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY WITHIN SOUTH AFRICA WITH PRE AND POSTOPERATIVE CARE.
