A Special Message

A special message we received for Mr Mia that we were so touched . If you have any stories of a message you would like to share, please email mandi@ravereview.co.za …..

Mr Sayed Mia, you might not remember me and my late husband who was a police officer stationed at Lenasia 34 year’s ago you and your company Golden Houses part of the SHM group made our dreams come true of becoming proud homeowners of our dream home and we got the best people to deal with Gaf, and Liyakat made all this possible.

So many people might not know this but you have been doing some amazing work for the community for a very long time.  And today I am truly blessed because I’m still in the same home and that’s all thanks to Your group of companies.

I have a beautiful place called home because of you. My wish is that you continue to grow from strength to strength and achieve all your goals, God riches blessings upon you and your family.

Thanks once again.

Human Rights Day

We hope that you all had a wonderful Human Rights Day. This is not just a public holiday, but a day to remember how far our country has come and how much work there still is to be done.

Mr Sayed Mia is a trustee of the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation and we are sending all of our love and though to Mr Kathrada for a speedy recovery.

Mr Kathrada is known for uttering this now famous quote, “Hatred, revenge, bitterness – these are negative emotions. The person harbouring those emotions suffers more”.

Please enjoy this very special video that epitomizes a man who embodies human rights in its purest form – Mr Ahmed Kathrada.

The choices you make and the decisions you take have a long lasting impact on your life. They make us special, put a bar of distinction between us and everyone else. Our lives are a series of choices we’ve made so far. Mr Mia knows that we live with our choices for the rest of our lives — and believe him when he says this, “the rest of your life is a pretty long period, and is being shaped by the choices you make”.

The past is unalterable yet offers you an insight on the mistakes you made. The present is a gift you need to make the best of, and the core of your future comprises each and every decision you have ever taken. We can’t ever undo the past, but we can always LEARN from it. Choices are the building blocks of our lives and despite all the mistakes one makes, a new day brings with itself new opportunities and a whole new world of choices.

Remember that the choice is yours. It has always been, and always will be.

Drivers of Change Awards

Mr Sayed Mia attended this year’s Drivers of Change Awards. Looking very handsome, Mr Mia was there to show support for the nominees and his son, world renowned and groundbreaking plastic surgeon, Dr Ridwan Mia, the keynote speaker on the night! We are hoping to get a copy of that speech for you to watch, so keep your eyes peeled on this page for when that goes live!

The Drivers of Change Awards recognise individuals and organisations from across Southern Africa that are making a real impact in developing effective public policies and strategies to overcome poverty. Recipients of the awards are recognised in the civil society, government, individual and business categories. The awards were established to hold up living examples of innovative practices.

Special Message

Mr Mia recently received this very special message from an ex pupil who he taught during his teaching days. Mr Mia was so humbled by it, that he asked me to post it on this Facebook page.

We would love to compile a special book for Mr Mia, full of memories for him to read. Perhaps you or someone you know have been touched by Mr Mia’s kindness and humility, mentored by him or taught by him? If you or someone you know have any special memories or lessons from Mr Mia, be it in his teaching career, having been employed by him, worked with him on charities, housing or community projects, please let us know. We would LOVE to hear your stories, and we know Mr Mia would be so honoured to hear them too.

You can comment your stories below or email mandi@ravereview.co.za

Good evening Sir..My name is Colin and you taught me many years ago at Lenz High. The greatest lesson you taught me was during an an exam. I broke a window in your class. Being scared of you sending me to the office I began to cry as I was very quiet. You did something that day that stayed with me, and I used when I became a teacher, and now principal at Greyville Primary School. The lesson was that you forgave me, the scared little boy in standard 6, you just asked me to pick up the pieces of glass.

Today I give learners second, third chances because of what did over 40 odd years ago, and for that I Thank you. These days I’m sure you are aware of the challenges we face in education. Our Greyville community is tough with all the drug abuse in our community.. We want to reach our goal of building a media centre at our school.

As a former teacher, nobody knows and values the importance of education more than Mr Sayed Mia.

Education lays the groundwork and foundation for the life you live. Education is what remains long after what one has learnt in school. Education is so much more than school, lessons and homework – it forms who we are, it develops our character, it shows what we are capable of and allows us to embark into the big world to achieve it.

It’s said that there are two types of educations. One that teaches us how to make a living, and the other is how to LIVE your life.
