Sayed Mia – In keeping with his dedication to philanthropy

Sayed Mia attended two massive charity events this past week. In keeping with his dedication to philanthropy in not only his own, but the broader communities, these two events brought together the very best of who and what South Africa has to offer. The first event being the seventh annual Ubuntu Awards and Lecture Ceremony and the second event, 50th anniversary dinner of the Memon  Association of South Africa. Both events were held in Johannesburg and were attended by Sayed Mia and members of his family.

On 9 September 2015 at the Montecasino Ballroom in Johannesburg, Sayed Mia and his son, world renowned plastic surgeon Dr Ridwan Mia, attended the seventh Annual Ubuntu Awards and Lecture Ceremony

These awards celebrate the achievements of outstanding individuals from across all walks of life who have made noteworthy contributions to dialogue, peace and harmony in society. They were awarded in glittering style in a number of various categories. The Peace & dialogue Awards is aimed at recognizing the selfless sacrifices that are made for humanity in terms of dialogue, education and social cohesion.

This year’s Honourees included personalities and entities such as: H.E. Dr NC Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (Gulen Peace Award); Zubeida Jaffar (Media Award); South African Council of Churches-SACC (Interfaith Award); Gauteng City Region Academy-GCRA (Education Award); Walter Sisulu (Posthumous Freedom Award).

Later on in the week, Sayed Mia attended the 50th anniversary dinner of the Memon Association of South Africa -for which he has played an important role over the years as an executive member. He attended this event with members of his family including his three sons Reza, Ridwan and Zaakir.

The Memon Association of South Africa promotes the advancement, upliftment, unity, welfare and well being of Memons and other communities in accordance with and under the guidance of Islamic principles. The Memon Community has a rich history and counts for one and a half million people worldwide.

It is also noteworthy to mention that Sayed Mia also received an award for recognition of 39 years of distinguished service to the memon association.
